Roger McGuinn has some really good, under rated tracks. It's a shame this didn't make a bigger splash when released. It holds up well today and is better than some later Byrds releases.

Verified Purchase. Fairly typical Roger McGuinn album with some good and some mediocre. He never rises near to the heights he achieved in the Byrds on any of his solo stuff. I know because I have them all.

One person found this helpful. With the help of producer Bill Halverston, McGuinn nicely updated his sound while staying true to the folk-country-rock blend he pioneered on a dozen Byrds albums. The songs are uniformly strong, starting with Charlie Rich's rousing title cut. Some fans have complained that the album is over-produced, but I think the rich textures work in solid compliment to McGuinn's singing.

A great unreleased version of "Rock and Roll Time" far better than on "Cardiff Rose" is an added bonus. Roger McGuinn is obviously a very intelligent musician and his comments in the liner notes are a treat for long-time fans. The 's were littered with bland solo albums from the "L. Sure, it has weak moments thus my 4-star rating , but the bulk of the material is so good, I find it a necessity to own. I've been playing it a lot lately again after leaving it alone for some time, and like certain tracks better this time around.
