This is a wonderful historical recording which catches Devo at the height of their powers and bursting with energy. The recording quality falls short of album standard and you have the DJ intro at the beginning, but the performance totally smashes it! From the moment they take to the stage, the band are full-on - this must have been an awesome show to see at the time.
Brilliant live album which demonstrates what a class act this band was in its heyday. Superb musicianship, not a bum note or fudged lyric to be heard-pure professionalism. Sound quality not great but the music shines through. Not as good as expected. Still ok. See all reviews. Unlimited One-Day Delivery and more. Well, I don't have any eyewitnesses for , so I'll bet you're correct about Garcia not showing up. Do you recall anyone from the Dead universe at the event? My theory is that someone had checked it out. You are correct, JGMF, at least according to dead. I'll have to delve into my BAM archives to be sure I do recall the Dead Kennedys being at that first Warfield Bammies and maybe wearing skinny ties with dollar signs on them?
Or maybe that was another year Of course the Phil and Phish shows were completely magical. For me, though, the Warfield was never quite the same after they tore out the seats. The whole back third of the downstairs became a loud talking zone where no one paid attention to the music; really bad! In the rock journo biz we referred to the lame guest-list, hangers-on-types at "Liggers" I think it might be British slang.
Anyway, a big "ligger" scene was not a good thing. They would congregate at the outer edges of the petite Old Waldorf truly one of the greatest of all SF venues, show-wise and at that back of the downstairs at the Warfield The current generation of concert goers is, largely, completely rude oblivious IMO.
STFU everybody! Thank you. I feel better now Dylan rants and Jerry playin banjo. What a special place. Thank you kind sir. I recently as of February seen the dark star orchestra at the Warfield and like the dead they slowly were moving up in venues and for a tribute band that says something about the longevity of this music and like stated the acoustic sound in this venue is unbelievable.
The capacity theater, built in at Market Street, was first bought to Deadhead attention when the band played an historic date engagement in September and October of About a decade later, when the Dead had finally outgrown the little theater, it became the home base of the Jerry Garcia Band.
In the end, there were a couple of dozen Dead shows, and Garcia played there around times himself, apart from the Dead. Throughout the entire period and right up through today, The Warfield has been a premier music venue in San Francisco, and the list of performers who have played there is like a rock history tutorial.
The Warfield was a premier rock concert venue in San Francisco from late onwards. It was a beautiful old theater, with wonderful acoustics, and over time more and more rock fans were willing to pay premium prices at the Warfield instead of a lesser price at a giant arena. You could probably write a book about the rock history of the Warfield, and it would be a good overview of late 20th century rock music.
Merely from the perspective of the Grateful Dead, after Jerry Garcia moved forward in , the Warfield became the home base of Phil Lesh And Friends, and there were numerous intimate, fantastic performances for those ensembles as well, making the Warfield a Deadhead nexus for 25 years.Oct 20, · The recording quality falls short of album standard and you have the DJ intro at the beginning, but the performance totally smashes it!
