Donna smelt success and indeed, within a few short weeks at the end of and the beginning of , turned out a full album of tracks with the hope she would add to their unrivaled chart success. One problem that immediately arose was the lack of a record contract in the US. What Donna needed was the means to release this record in America and reclaim her crown as the Queen of disco. In the end, Atlantic come to the rescue and picked up the album, but only after it had been released throughout the rest of the world and import sales had already penetrated the US market.
This was the second single released from the album in May , receiving a remix that perhaps is slightly inferior to the majesty of the original album version. Top reviews from the United States. One of the best if not THE best example of the PWL musical engine getting behind a terrific singer, taking them further. The whole album, start to finish is a winner, for me, especially "I don't wanna get hurt", "when love takes over you", "this time i know it's for real", but the stand outs had to have been the title track, "in another time and place" which is a heart breaker of a song , "sentimental" donna's vocals guide our hearts as they soar above the clouds and we're reminded why we loved her so much and continue to miss her , and the album closer "love's about to change my heart" reminding us of love's dizzying prospect, at least from the dance floor!
That being said, this Donna wasn't meant to be archived but to be played loud and out on the dance floor! With her untimely passing we will not have any additional Donna Summer albums to enjoy, so it is a good time that go back and take a listen to what she releases in the last. Yes, this goes back to her dance music days. And she is still missed to this day! I think it was Stock Aitken Waterman's best album project ever. Donna's vocals are so powerful and bring out so much emotion.
The only surprise was that the album's biggest hit, "This Time I Know It's For Real" was only given one remix on this elaborate re-issue.
There had to be an alternate version done at PWL! Would have enjoyed that over the Loveland business. Was looking forward to this release! I did a search for this album last year, because I have so many memories attached to it, and I wanted to reconnect to that.
The music is great, every song was a hit, and the beats will make you want to get up and dance. I have been driving around in my car listening, and I can't be still When I originally bought this album, I played it day and night for months and months. This music will take you back to another place and time that was oh so sweet. I love it and am so glad to have found it again. Donna Summer has done it again. Another Place and Time is just what the doctor ordered for the hard core Donna fans all over the world.
I first heared this recording back in the summer of while living in Atlanta GA. I've been listening ever sense. My salon was located on the beach in Biloxi and was completely wiped out by her fury. Needless to say that all of my cd's were taken with everything else. I'm in the process of re-building my cd collectiuon and this one was at the top of the list. If you've never heard this fantastic recording, you're missing Donna's optimum vocal range.
This is the true Donna, doing what she does best - Sing! Play On Donna! All the Best! Once again, Amazon nailed it. This cd is fantastic. I can put it on and listen to to the whole cd. I have always been a Donna Summer fan. During this period however, Summer had felt that the label had exploited her and made her portray a sexually orientated image "The First Lady of Love" with which she never felt comfortable.
After leaving Casablanca, Summer became the first artist to be signed to the newly established Geffen Records. By , banners reading "disco sucks" were seen everywhere and disco records became flops. Summer decided to leave the disco sound behind. The album was co-written and produced by Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte , who had produced the vast majority of Summer's hits since their partnership with her began in Production for The Wanderer was rushed; Geffen wanted to get new product out because of Casablanca's plans to release Walk Away , another greatest hits collection.
But we just had to let it go," said Harold Faltermeyer about the recording of the album. Summer's rediscovered Christian faith was documented in the gospel song "I Believe in Jesus", for which she also received a nomination for Best Inspirational Performance. As a child Summer had sung in gospel choirs, so this song was a chance for her to go back to her roots. The album peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Album Chart — selling , copies in the US — and the title track hit number 3 on the US singles chart.
The album and its singles attained limited success on the UK charts. None of the singles cracked the UK Top This is song-writing pinnacle of achievement stuff here-they even added Flamenco guitar.
Hard to believe these are the same guys responsible for the rest of the album ,which really isn't my cup of tea since I'm not a huge dance music fan.
Breakaway is so good, it makes the rest of the album seem not so bad. That being said, a couple songs also separate themselves from the looped-arpeggio StockAitken- very throwaway sound. When Love Takes Over you, is a higher caliber of writing, and Sentimental is reminiscent of her early hit I Remember Yesterday-with it's 30's horn sound.
The title track is the third best song-sounds like Jeremy off her All Systems Go album-which is a little better than this one,but seems to have dropped off the face of the earth. The best thing about this album is how insanely happy it is-you can't frown when playing this. Most of the songs sound the same, but the great ones really shine through.
